Serving our neighbors since 1998

Built by Volunteers. Strengthened by Community.

For over 28 years, St. Brigid's has been providing our neighbors in the Greater Long Branch Community with food, care, and hope. Today we are the city's largest and most comprehensive food pantry — client-choice groceries, fresh produce, a chef-prepared lunch, and community partners on site, every week, run entirely by volunteers.

OUR MISSION

St. Brigid's Pantry and Kitchen's mission is to provide our neighbors in need with FOOD, CARE, and HOPE in a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment regardless of race or ethnicity.

Our services are FREE, and everyone is welcome.

WHAT WE DO

St. Brigid's is a volunteer-driven and managed organization. We are the only program in Long Branch that provides clients with free choice groceries; fresh produce and fruit; protein choices such as meat, fish, eggs, etc. based on availability; and a nutritious chef-prepared lunch.

We are open twice a week, every week, and we are a comprehensive program that provides those in need with food, as well as access to support services such as healthcare referrals, nutritional counseling, and SNAP benefits.

We serve:

  • Low-income households
  • Seniors and individuals with limited mobility
  • Children and school-aged youth

WHO WE ARE

St. Brigid's Food Pantry and Kitchen was founded in 1998 by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of Long Branch's St. James' Episcopal Church as a ministry of the church. Under the leadership of the late Bunny Mayo, the ECW recognized that food insufficiency in the city was increasing, and they began providing pre-packed bags of groceries to hungry and needy Long Branch residents.

That program has grown as hunger has become a significant local issue — in 2025 St. Brigid's distributed 1.6 million pounds of food, serving 8,280 families and feeding 30,433 adults and children. In addition, the pantry served 13,000 "grab 'n go" lunches last year.

At a glance:

OUR JOURNEY

  1. 1998

    A church ministry

Founded by the Episcopal Church Women of Long Branch's St. James' Episcopal Church, under the leadership of the late Bunny Mayo.

  2. 2025

    An independent nonprofit

St. Brigid's became an IRS-certified 501(c)(3) operating separately from St. James' — opening funding not available to church-run pantries and enabling St. Brigid's to grow and serve more clients.

  3. 2026

A new home at St. Luke's

When St. Luke's United Methodist Church could no longer operate its own food ministry after its dedicated Director, Janet Massaro, went home to be with the Lord, its board invited St. Brigid's — whose mission and values aligned — to relocate. St. Brigid's began operations at 535 Broadway on July 8, 2026.

CAPACITY BUILDING

St. Brigid's is developing and implementing strategies and plans in 2026 to further increase our food distribution capacity, raise awareness of the pantry and its mission, and generate more support:

  • Community Garden

Carol Wright at the Jacob Jones 7th Ave. Community Garden in Long Branch, together with Monmouth Medical Center / RWJ Barnabas Health, built a raised garden for St. Brigid's, approximately 25' × 50' in size. It supplements the fresh produce received weekly from Fulfill and Interfaith Neighbors, and is maintained by Carol Wright and volunteers.

  • Grow-A-Row

St. Brigid's also participates in Fulfill's Grow-A-Row program. From July through September, harvest-driven fresh produce from two farms in Hunterdon County, NJ is delivered once a week to St. Brigid's.

  • Local Collaboration

St. Brigid's is planning to collaborate with local businesses and community organizations and work with them to increase awareness of St. Brigid's and its mission.
